Stress leads to sleep deprivation, and sleep deprivation has been linked to weight gain. Double whammy!
In a recent report published in the Journal of American Medicine, researchers from the University of Chicago Medical Center concluded that:
Chronic sleep loss can reduce the capacity of adults to perform basic metabolic functions such as processing and storing carbohydrates
Lack of sleep leads to weight gain because the brain senses a lack of energy and encourages you to eat even if you have had enough calories for the day
It is important then not to deprive your body of the sleep it needs. Everyone has different requirements but, find yours and make an effort to stick to it!
